Everyone (or at least most of us for that matter) believe in the inevitability of death. But despite the fact that we know its coming, we mourn the loss of a life.
What is then that causes us the grief? Perhaps it is all the things that one never got the chance to do. Perhaps its the nostalgia grounded on the good times spent together. Or perhaps its the things that were never said.
Each moment brings its own possibility of death. All in all, life should be taken step at a time ... surviving day by day.
In terms of Game of Thrones:
Syrio Florel: There is only one god and his name is Death, and there is only one thing we say to Death: "Not today"
