A moment to smile about

A few days ago I was at a wedding, which was apparently a mix of arrange and love marriage. The groom was a distant relative and a childhood acquaintance of mine, but I had not met him in years. I hardly knew anyone else at the wedding, so I took the opportunity to sit on a side instead and psycho-analyse my life and all that has gone wrong.

Deep in thought, I became faintly aware that the bride had started walking towards the stage. I heard some laughter and cheering going on around the stage which made me look up. The groom had walked up to the edge of the stage and was now delicately helping the bride walk up the stairs, which has prompted some teasing laughter from girls around the stage.

Given the context of Pakistani weddings, it was the genuineness of the moment and the sincerity in the gesture by the groom that made me smile as well. In that moment, I silently wished him good luck and I wished that he would indeed find true love in his marriage. With that, the moment was gone, and I was left with nothing better to do than to go back to my train of thoughts again.
