Started as a thought process on the one thing I could change about Pakistan, and on a quick glance ended up having a few ideals.
A secular (and tolerant) Pakistan:
First and foremost, a secular Pakistan. No compromise on that. And not just secular in the official sense, but in the sense of a nation that believes and understands that religious affiliations or personal beliefs should have absolutely no impact on how the society treats an individual. A person should be held accountable on a moral basis outside of the context of religion.
Opportunities for all:
While it is not realistic to expect everyone has the same opportunities, I do envision a Pakistan where every single individual regardless of social economical background has, at the very least, the opportunity to be independent and pursue a semblance of their dreams. No discrimination based on religion, gender, sexual orientation and/or social economic background. Basic education, health care and job opportunities for all. And certainly no child labor whether working in industry or in homes. No child deserves to have his/her life taken away and be forced into a suffocating life, especially one that only leads to limited opportunities as an adult.
Equality for women:
Women are treated as equals. Not just with "respect" but as equals. I envision a Pakistan where women can walk freely outside, to the same degree as a man would, and not be harassed and made to feel uncomfortable. Equal opportunities for education, jobs and freedom of choice. No segregation of men and women. Women should feel safe and comfortable that being in a mixed crowd in a social or public settings would seem completely normal and acceptable.
Sense of self-accountability:
A Pakistan where people hold themselves in a high degree of accountability. No cheating the system, no conscious efforts to gain an unfair advantage and then later complaining that much is wrong with the country. Individuals hold themselves accountable to the same standards they want the society as a whole to be. And willingness to help those who need and are open to accepting help.
