So what is about the unknown that excites us? Perhaps unknown is the wrong word to use; unexplained might be a better choice. For me, there is something very attractive about the idea of potentially coming across something that defies rationality. From the paranormal ideas behind X-Files (, Fringe and similar TV shows), to the stories involving magic, ghosts, remarkable coincidences and ultimately the idea of a grand design ... there is just something very exciting.
Logically and rationally there is no reason to believe in them, nor do I believe in them. However the desire to encounter something that defies logic, something that goes against all I know to be true, remains. I know I am not likely to encounter any such thing (and nor do I expect to). In its own weird way it is the dreams of the unexplained, the logic-defying ideas that can drive reality to some extent. Deep down I have this absurd feeling that just like imaginary numbers can actually be useful in computation of real numbers, somehow the paranormal and the non-existent, can be intricately related to reality. Foolish and absurd, yes. But the thought remains.
