No, I will not laugh at your sexist, racist or homophobic jokes.

Oh you didn't "actually mean it"? It was just an off-hand joke? Why am I being so serious or not laughing since it was "just a joke"?

As the saying goes: there is a little bit of truth in every joke. Now you may claim to not actually mean any of it and you may very well not have meant it, but jokes like these reflect a deeper problem and issue. They hint at the prejudices and biases we (as a society) have against people of other race, gender, religion, sexual orientation and what not.

To silently acknowledge or not contradict any offensive & discriminatory thing said, even if meant as a casual remark, in itself gives support to these prejudices. By not saying something (or laughing along) you are indirectly indicating that you are okay with the demeaning manner in which the certain group is being referred to. And for us - the supposedly educated and enlightened class - to treat these offensive jokes/remarks as nothing of significance is a major concern!

So no, I will not laugh at your sexist, racist, homophobic or otherwise discriminatory or prejudice filled jokes. I have too much respect for my friends to laugh along your comments and not say anything.
