Armor of Pretense

He zipped passed everyone. He shielded the smiles, the indifference glances and the naive trust. But then there it was, the look that knew, that could not be shielded.

It was a bit unnerving to pretend when someone could see otherwise. It brings in the kind of a guilt that could get even the most experienced grifters to fumble in the middle of their biggest cons.

And he did the bold thing. He flaunted the armor of pretense right in front of the gaze of his fellow warrior, daring but silently hoping for no reaction.
