He stared in frustration at the flame, flickering atop the slowly melting candle. It was just him in the darkly lit room akin to a cave of the middle ages. The only thing besides him and the emptiness was that candle burning assuredly, yet mockingly in the middle of the room.
The bizarre and unexplained thing was that he somehow had a unique effect on the candle. Any time he attempted to move close, the flame dimmed out and afraid of the flame completely disappearing, he would just step away. So here he was standing at the edge where light blended into utter darkness, and all he could do was to watch the candle slowly burn. Until all the wax melts and the inevitable darkness pursues. The only consolation was the comfort in knowing he still had some time.
